Practise your Icelandic

Why the program exists?

As non-Icelandic speakers in Iceland, it is quite a challenge to learn Icelandic if you don’t get to practise it. Every aspect of becoming integrated in Iceland often has an entry barrier of understanding and speaking the language.

How will it work?

Every 2nd Friday of the month non-Icelandic speaking JCI members (& open to non-JCI-members at a fee of 500 kr. per session) will have the chance to practise to speak, read and/or write Icelandic with the assistance / facilitation of 3 Icelandic members from JCI. The sessions will have some structure for variety depending on participants language level. It will only be for an hour.

What you benefit from this?

As a non-Icelandic speaker you will be able to practise in a safe environment (yes some of us are embarrassed to speak a language like a 2 year old), so that you can grow and progressively be able to feel more confident in speaking the language. We would like the sessions to be abit of everything to meet all proficency levels hence why we will usually have 3 groups: speaking, reading & writing.

The session is only an hour, and I’m sure we’ll all have some laughs along the way. In addition, we can hang out afterwards, in English or Icelandic, whatever comes naturally.

The next scheduled evening is as follows: 14 June
